"Fake Breakfast, Real Hunger" - Palazzo de La Salle, Valletta, Malta
I have been invited to take part in the Malta Society of Arts 2024 "CLAY/CRAFT/CONCEPT" Contemporary Pottery Ancient History 22nd August - 26th September in the center of Valletta. (Home - Malta Society of Arts (artsmalta.org)).
I am very proud and grateful that my work has been recognized as part of this unique exhibition.
This time my headline and message will be 'Fake Breakfast, Real Hunger'.
I use hyperrealistic clay sculptures of toast, banana, egg and avocado to highlight the stark contrast between abundance and scarcity in our world.
These lifelike representations of common breakfast items that are staples for many are a powerful reminder of the millions of people who face food insecurity every day.
By creating these sculptures, I hope to provoke thought and conversation about the global hunger crisis.
The choice of breakfast items symbolizes the start of a new day, a time of nourishment and energy that many people can't take for granted.
Through art that looks real but is fundamentally inedible, I challenge viewers to confront the uncomfortable reality that while some enjoy abundance, others struggle to access even basic nutrition.
This exhibition invites you to reflect on the role of food in our lives and the urgent need for equitable solutions to hunger.
